United runs the only regular nonstop from Newark, and its Polaris cabin remains one of the stronger US products: a 1-2-1 lie-flat pod, Polaris lounge access at EWR, and Saks Fifth Avenue bedding that actually gets you real sleep on this overnight eastbound leg. But the more interesting options often route through European hubs. SAS offers a Nordic-styled 1-2-1 lie-flat seat with genuinely good Scandinavian food and a natural connection pattern into Helsinki given the regional proximity. Lufthansa's new Allegris suites on the A350 are worth a routing through Frankfurt or Munich if you can get the newer aircraft — the suite doors and German service standard are a noticeable step up. Turkish Airlines connects through Istanbul with DO&CO catering that's consistently rated among the best in business class, and Turkish's lounge is an attraction in itself if you have a few hours to spend. TAP Air Portugal, Austrian, LOT Polish, and ITA Airways round out the field with connections through Lisbon, Vienna, Warsaw, and Rome respectively — all solid 1-2-1 lie-flat products except Austrian, which still flies an older 2-2-2 angled-flat cabin that's worth avoiding if a lie-flat alternative is priced similarly.
